Camshaft (along with Downshift and Overdrive) was part of the first Transformers mail-away offer. For $5usd and 4 "robot points" each (off the back of TF packaging) fans could order any combination of the three well designed sports car warriors.

Reviews
The mail-away Omnibots are important for the G1 completist, but let's get real - these small car Transformers are not nearly as cool or detailed as the main line toys that were available at retail. If anything, they're hardcore call-backs to the Diaclone/Diakron/Microman/Microchange origins of Transformers. I personally had to own all three onmibots in mint condition with unapplied sticker sheets, because I'm crazy.
Camshaft, a mail order is a cool designed car with it's launcher in the back. I find it to be a little flimsy.
a mail order figure. Mine cam with his head broken off in the box from not being packed properly in shipping, and believe it i saved my points on the cards to get him, gets loose after a few changes.
