Optimus Prime

127 Have it 11 Want it
Curator's Notes:

Perhaps the most iconic Transformer of all time, the original Generation 1 Optimus Prime was on the Xmas want list of every boy in North America in 1984. Of note to collectors should be the various variations on smokestack length, missle colour, Roller colour, fist and rifle size and the presence of stickers vs. raised panels on the floor of the trailer. The toy has also been re-released numerous times with slight changes along the way. A must have for any serious TF fan.

The original G1 Optimus Prime, by Hasbro (1984); this was the "holy grail" for me for Transformers and still is IMHO. Basic and lacking some articulation by today's standards, it was revolutionary for its' time. The figure converts from robot to truck, has a trailer that converts from trailer to battle station 9complete with artillery/mechanic robot) and a scout car named "roller". The transformation is also simplistic by today's standards, but was new and exciting for 1984!

This is still one of my favorite transformers; the arms move at the shoulders and elbows, knees move and the hips only move backwards. The attention to detail and the fact that the robot is made of vehicle parts rather than simply wearing parts of a vehicle "shell" make it more appealing to me than the later versions. I would personally buy this new only for display, as the legs (chromed plastic) are kind of weak and will break. if you want one for play, the commemorative series G1 Prime's legs are reinforced inside and are a heavier grade chromed plastic (albeit the figure has shorter smoke stacks).

Whats not to love. Its the toy every boy wanted when he was a kid. Finally I got one, in terrible shape, but I got one.

What can you no like about G1 Prime. For an 80's toy it's amazing. Every Transformers collector knows him and every collection should have him.

Diaclone left over metal plates instead of stickers in the trailer. Pre rub sign Prime also grey roller and grey missles. Very good shape looks great n anymode Trailer can be a repair bay when stood up though it was never mentioned in the US that was an option.

One of my favourite transformers. With so many versions of this character released, this one is the most iconic.

it's been many years and your still trucking. I don't don't know how you do it but you really turn the tide.

I love Optimus Prime as more than most people and more than most collectors. This guy is klunky and stiff looking. His chest looks bulky and awkward. I love him.

Good old Optimus Prime leader of the Autobots the coolest of all the Transformers past or present in his original incarnation.

One shall stand, One shall fall. The leader of the autobots was my very first transformer ever. I hung on tight to him until a friend took him, broke off the right leg and tried to melt it back on. Took me a long time to get another one, but i finally did and is one of my prize pieces in my collection.

One of the greatest figures out there and they are still making him. If it was not for Optimus Prime there would be no Autobots

When this figure came out it was $80... which as you can imagine in the 1980s was worth more than a little. Well worth the cash.

One of the most iconic toys of the 1980s and all time. The original Optimus Prime is so beloved that it has been re-released in various configurations for almost 30 years. Incredible play value, die-cast parts and tons of great accessories.
